Project description
Vereniging Gehandicaptenzorg Nederland (VGN) is a branch association of 171 organizations dedicated to care for the disabled. An industry that is struggling with a large shortage of staff. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport supports the healthcare sector in tackling this problem. In line with the Facebook campaign, VGN is launching the WateenVak website, aimed at potential side entrants. The website offers inspiration and stories from people about the profession and helps potential colleagues take the switch to a wonderful next job. The website was created together with VGN and SchaapOntwerpers and LimoenGroen.

The WateenVak website is aimed at people who want to mean something to the lives of other people. The website shows that they can find great satisfaction in care for the disabled. The experiences and tips from people who took the step earlier are presented online. A smart Quick scan (in collaboration with Freddify) helps assess whether the work really suits them. You can search for vacancies in your region and view all organizations and locations. But you can also place an advertisement yourself as a potential side entrant. This is directly seen by HR employees from all affiliated organizations. This is how supply and demand come together.

Stories
A specific approach has been chosen for Wateenvak.nl: We started writing stories from the perspective of the two most important target groups: The side entrants and the HR employees. Every story must be credible and so must the use of the website in the story. This was the starting point to create a prototype together with VGN specialists. The stories and the flow through the prototype were brought together, so that content and functionality were assessed much better on the connection with the target groups.

Customer journey
At Wateenvak.nl all content and functionality helps potential side entrants in the different phases of their decision-making. There is information about the different professions and what it is like to work with people with very different types of disabilities, told by enthusiastic people who have already made the switch. Because the decision will not be made in one go, users can easily find their saved information at a later moment on a personal dashboard and pick up the thread immediately.

Results
There are more and more members who use the website. We have entered 318 locations of 46 members (more than a quarter).
We have assigned 341 login codes to 172 organizations.
149 people have logged in one or more times
The number of vacancies is growing steadily; now 175
We have 8,964 unique visitors and they remain long; 3:43 minutes.
2,890 quick scans have been done.
Nearly 2,000 people did a search on the vacancies. Most people search on all professions and / or all target groups.
The number of visits per day is strongly related to our promotions on Facebook. We have not advertised the last week and you can see that immediately. Members are starting to advertise more and more.
The vacancies are very popular with visitors. The stories come in second place.
There are 17 stories in the starting blocks to be published.
Challenges
SchaapOntwerpers finds it very important the the design of the user-interface is accessible for all people on every device. Together with LimoenGroen we make sure that it we deliver the highest standards in design and code. We designed every page specially for each device so the user experience is perfect per device.

Brian of Stichting Accessibility also responded enthusiastically:
"A quick report mark: I would say a 9. Cannot find WCAG violations in a very fast scan. Someone with a lot of sense / experience has clearly worked on this. Nice example of a beautifully accessible website. I'm impressed.

To make sure that our assumptions were correct a proof of concept was developed and tested at the target groups. This resulted in valuable insights which were implemented in the final design.
We believe in data driven design. This means that we constantly check the user data and come up with solutions to improve the succes of the website.
