Background
Burst developed a global brand platform for Hero, which enables Hero to be more adaptive in a constantly changing digital landscape. The platform is designed in a way that it can support multiple sites, each with their own unique setup in terms of domain structure, languages, theme and functionalities. Local brand and content managers have full control over their website, while the technical maintenance and continuous development are done at a global level.

Also, data is collected for all websites which is used in future marketing efforts and platform improvements. Last but not least the platform also saved Hero a lot of costs, compared to developing all websites individually with local agencies.

The platform contains 9 different bold and colourful designed themes representing 9 different brands from under the Hero umbrella, which is why it is a great case within Design, UX and Front-end category.

*Facts*
- More than 40 websites are currently live on the platform
- 13 different markets are served, among which Asia, USA and the Middle East
- The platform contains a portal for each country, directing visitors to the right product website
- The platform connect with 3 different CRM systems used by local marketeers
- The design is fully responsive and optimised for mobile
- The whole design and front-end are created to be presented in markets that read from right to left, such as Middle Eastern countries
- The platform contains 9 different bold and colourful designed themes representing 9 different brands from under the Hero umbrella

Objectives
- Build a single platform that technically support al local Hero websites
- Make the platform adaptive, so it can be expanded with new functionalities that can easily be rolled out on all websites
- Implement data capturing, so that we can learn from that in the future
- Optimise the platform for search engines
- Save costs on digital production by centralising all development
Results
- More than 40 websites are currently live on the platform, serving hundreds of thousand of visitors
- 13 different markets have launched one or more websites on the platform, among them Asia, the USA and the Middle East
- The platform contains 9 different bold and colourful designed themes representing 9 different brands from under the Hero umbrella
- The platform contains a portal for each country, directing visitors to the right product website
- The design is fully responsive and optimised for mobile
- The whole design and front-end are created to be presented in markets that read from right to left, such as Middle Eastern countries
- Although it is difficult to calculate an exact amount, we estimate to have saved hundreds of thousands of Euro's on digital production with the platform
Technical challenges
The platform needed to be:
- Flexible: Each country and brand needed to be able to customise their website to their own needs
- Act like a chameleon: Multiple themes and designs needed to be supported, as well as right to left
- Able to handle a very large amount of content
- Be fast all over the world, in Europe, USA and Asia
- Be secure at all times

But in the end the main challenge was to keep the platform perform and clean with all the different exceptions and wishes from all local brands and markets.
